My Personal Struggles in Marketing

Feedback from bloggers and friends have been quite revealing…

Bunch Out is a great idea, but I haven’t found the exact words to get the simplicity and excitement across.

“People pooh-poohed our idea for more than a year. We took that to mean either we weren’t explaining it well or we were dead wrong. Yet the more we studied the problem, the more clear it became that we weren’t wrong.

What you forget—because you’ve been living and breathing this idea for so long—is that others may not see what’s obvious to you.

You need to connect the dots for them. We did that by finding a metaphor that explained what our company would do.”

- GIBU THOMAS, CEO and co-founder of personal media synchronization startup Sharpcast

While I haven’t begun marketing Bunch Out in the press etc, I really shouldn’t do it till I have simplified and sharpened the communication of what it is…

If any of you can offer any advice, I’m all ears ;)

    hmm,
well i think this idea’s real great but there’s that missing punch… + i guess u can’t quite pinpoint it ay? yeah perhaps communication is part n parcel to it, but is that really it? the essence to bunchout is to socialize, yes? so a connection btw the groups is needed…. cos right now, there’s no way to contact these groups… perhaps we need to taste a lil bit more of bunch out to get our juices flowing :D

    what if:
    - ppl could join a listing, but not have to put up a group?
    - ppl could post a photo to a group and let others see it? ie ‘new on this group’ - feature latest photo postings on the side…
    - u had some visual linkages between groups, then it’ll show how these groups are linked?

i could go on but yeah, give it a shot.

    cheers,
    laydeh

    thx for feedback!

i like the “interesting-ness” of the photo idea! have inserted it to my idea bucket.

but your comment reaveals the #1 misconception… ppl think they can “join” a listing - but really, it shud work like a classifieds - u contact the owner of the listing.. and nobody can join anyone’s group - they just go out with each other..

but ur comment gives me a few more ideas.. thanks again… watch this space!!

Ya, I agree with laydeh’s points. I didn’t actually get the hype much when Bunch Out get started. But, I was developing a site for the last few days which is meant to gather content *and* people, and I thought of integrating Bunch Out. Somehow, I just don’t know how to proceed.

And also, I’m still waiting for the Facebook app :P

mmm, okay will keep an eye out :)
but i’m missing the part where i can contact the owner of the group…

o something else just came to mind…
#1 misconception? there u go. i think u just hit it smack on. that’s what u need to do - educate the audience to not think of it the way i just did, despite the instructions (slap me for speed reading). since it’s supposed to be like classifieds, why not have it graphically laid out to look like one but with a few featured ones. adds a lil more tasty flavours :P

cheeaun - facebook app is on the way

laydeh - my idea is to stop battling against the trend… if people enjoy using the word “join”, then i’ll use that to help the app grow in its intended direction! this is why i love marketing + internet… the cycle of rolling out something new, getting data, and reacting, is very very quick.
